The Code of conduct.

All students taking part will be asked to agree on a code of conduct which needs to be signed by both the student AND parents.

Here is a copy of the code.

CODE OF CONDUCT: GRADE 8 TRIP

This code is devised to make sure that students, parents and teachers are clear regarding behavioral expectations for the Grade 8 trip. I hope that you will consider the aspects of the code reasonable and accept that every student has the responsibility to abide by them. This document serves as a reminder that the trip should be fun, informative, inspiring and fair to everyone who attends.

NB mobile phone policy!! We operate a “common sense” mobile phone policy while away on trips in grade 8. Students can use mobile phones at appropriate times but the mobile phone is entirely the responsibility of the student concerned.

At all times:
Be punctual
Listen to instructions
Respect the personal space and property of others
Be considerate to other guests in the hotel as well as the respecting the school rules
Use common sense!

On the coach:
Stay seated
Speak quietly
Keep the coach clean and litter free

At the Hotel:
Keep your belongings tidy
During free time stay in the areas designated for your use
Girls may not visit the rooms where the boys are staying
Boys may not visit the rooms where the girls are staying
· Use acceptable table manners at mealtimes
· Be respectful of other guests
· Leave the room and other areas as clean as you found them
· Shower or bath each day

At night:
Once the signal is given for bedtime (lights out), no student may leave their rooms unless in an emergency.
When students are asked to settle and let others sleep, further reminders should not have to be given.
Allow others to sleep even if you are not sleepy.
Respect the right of students and other guests to have quiet at night.
Stay in bed and quiet until it is time to get up, do not leave your room before instructed to do so by a teacher.

How these rules will be treated:
Students will be reminded of rules and of others that may be pointed out to them by the ISM staff and auxiliary staff.
Staff will monitor student behavior and students will be reminded about the code.
Spot checks on ISM students may be made during the night.
Failure to respect the rules may result in students losing the right to participate in some activities.
Serious problems will be dealt with as follows: parents will be contacted immediately and asked to arrange for their son or daughter to go home at the first opportunity. In the case of leaving the room during the night or if a banned substance such as alcohol, cigarettes or weapons (pocket knives included) being found in the students possession, a suspension from school will be in order.

We do not expect to have to arrange for any child to be collected, however, I am aware that some students may feel tempted to test the rules perhaps even just “for the fun of it”. I believe that this kind of behaviour can exert peer pressure on other students, cause them distress, put them at risk, or even compromise their good name.

If we all work together and use some common sense we can enjoy the educational experience provided by the trip and come back feeling enlightened about each other and the world around us.
